Regardless of what we think or how we operate, every aspect of our lives is interwoven with those of the other people in the various circles we move. These connections create a web that is fluid in movement and is what I attempt to reflect in the images I choose to incorporate in my work. The repeated series of juxtaposed images I use to create my ‘curtains” are all interconnected in my mind. I physically force their connection compositionally, linked together they are forced into a conversation with their neighbors. A natural extension of my encaustic work, these “curtains” employ many of the same techniques utilizing wax and buffing for textural purposes that I have explored for the past several years. While the images are repeated they frequently have slight differences owing to the wax surface that subtly alters the visual presentation of each image in much the same way that a community shares many similar characteristics but is still comprised of individuals.
